By the time the 1990s opened, the basic design of the Porsche 911 was nearly three decades old. No matter that it had evolved considerably during that period; the question looming in the minds of many buyers was whether it really could remain at the pinnacle of high-performance motoring for such a long time. That same question had been raised in the Boardrooms of other car manufacturers, too.
