Terms and Conditions
METHODS OF PAYMENT
We accept most major credit / debit cards, such as SOLO / ELECTRON / MAESTRO / VISA (credit and debit) / MASTERCARD / . The information we require is the card holders name and address (Billing Address), delivery address (if different from billing address), card number and expiry date. In the case of Switch cards, issue number is also required. If possible please give a contact phone / fax number or email address, as this would be most useful should we have any queries. Payment can also be made by cheque or postal order and should be made payable to "CHATERS". For overseas customers including EIRE, cheques should be made payable in £ Sterling (including Euro cheques) drawn on a London bank.
PLACING AN ORDER IF NOT WISHING TO USE THE INTERNET
Once you have made your choice, simply make a list of the items you wish to order stating quantity, title and price. Then send your order together with your payment and delivery details to us at:

HOW SOON WILL MY ORDER BE PROCESSED?
Subject to availability, we aim to process and despatch all orders within 5 - 7 working days. For delivery times please refer below.
WHAT HAPPENS IF AN ORDERED ITEM IS OUT OF STOCK?
If an ordered item is currently unavailable, we will automatically backorder it and advise you of its status, whether it is temporarily out of stock, reprinting or out-of-print and indicate time scales of expectancy whenever possible. As regards out-of-print books to indicate time scale is virtually impossible. Reason being the purchasing of them depends on locating them via a second hand source and can take anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of years. Once the item is available again, we will contact you immediately, indicating any price difference and advise the condition if it is an out of print item. Should we not receive a reply within 7 days, we will assume the item is no longer required and subsequently cancel the back order.
OUT OF PRINT BOOKS
It has been our intention to make Chater's web site the most comprehensive automotive literature guide for motoring enthusiasts, which is why we have listed every single title available from our database. Amongst the list you will see quite a large number of out-of-print (OOP) items which are either in stock or out. "What is the purpose of listing out of stock OOP books, you will never see them again?", you may ask; but there is every possibility that we will be able to track them down again as second-hand motoring books is a very active market. This is why Chater's have always operated a free book search service for customers, who are trying to find those elusive tomes to add to their collections. The price indicated against an out-of-print book is current if it is in stock, or previous if out of stock. We bring this to your attention, as there is a great fluctuation in the purchasing of second hand books, influenced by a number of varying factors causing significant price differences. For this reason we strongly advise customers not to value their collection for insurance purposes using our prices as a guide. Also do not forget, if you have certain items you wish to dispose of either to sell or part exchange, drop us a line and we will make a competitive offer for any that are of interest.
1st & 2nd Class Post. Larger parcels require a signature on delivery. Please consider this when ordering. Delivery time normally within 7 working days from date of despatch.
Printed-paper Airmail. Delivery time normally 7 - 14 days.
Surface mail (uninsured). Delivery time approx 10 - 12 weeks. Certain countries we suggest using Airmail services, in order that parcels can be insured against loss and damage caused in transit. Chater's cannot be held responsible for the loss of surface mail parcels. Replacements will be sent at our discretion.
PLEASE NOTE THAT DELIVERY TIMES CAN VARY DURING PEAK SEASONS.
If for any reason you are dissatisfied with your order, there is a 10 day limit in which you may return the goods. Please contact us prior to doing so, in order that we may advise you of the correct procedure. Please note postage will only be reimbursed if the item being returned was sent in error, received in a damaged condition due to inadequate packaging* or found to be faulty. Postage will not be reimbursed if the item being returned was ordered in error or disappointing in its content.
* We remind all customers that great care is taken in our packaging ensuring safe delivery, and very rarely do parcels arrive damaged due to our neglect.
