Few Jaguars have a story as extraordinary as the Hansgen Special.
From its origins on the American racing circuits of the 1950s to its later preservation in Switzerland, this unique competition car represents a fascinating chapter of Jaguar history.
In 1951, an unknown club racer by the name of Walt Hansgen was competing in his Jaguar XK120 Roadster. Working on the Jaguar at his family garage and body shop during the week and racing at the weekends, he did so on a shoestring budget. With limited finances came a competitive glass ceiling, and despite his natural talent, he realised the car was never going to be a match for the factory-built sports racers.
By 1952, Walt was convinced the key to his success was in a Jaguar C-Type, but simply couldn’t afford one. So, he decided to design, build and race his own version of the Coventry racer. And thus, the legendary Hansgen Jaguar special was born.
This book features the 1953 Hansgen Jaguar - the car that launched the career of legendary American racer Walt Hansgen, documenting the car’s development, racing career and survival with rare photographs and detailed research.
A must-have for every serious Jaguar enthusiast.
