Review from Classic Car Weekly

Buying any second hand car is fraught with danger, but finding a good used Porsche can lead you through an absolute minefield of potentially wallet draining possibilities. For-warned is for-armed, so a small investment in this book could save a fortune in the long term by helping to avoid the lemons. The author, David Hemmings, has owned a 928 for 25 years and draws on his considerable experience to help the reader find the best car their budget will allow.

Broken down into 17 informative chapters, this handy sized book is ideal for taking with you when looking over a potential purchase and covers many useful topics, including if a 928 really is the right car for you, running costs and all of the bits and pieces that are expensive or difficult to put right. There are loads of detailed pictures sprinkled about the pages showing the different generations of cars, trim options and all of the little things only someone really familiar with these cars would know to look-out for. There are useful sections on how to buy a car, including how to find a good one at auction, what paper work should accompany a well looked after example, the various costs and problems associated with restoring one and how a well sorted car should behave on the test drive.

There may be plenty of cars to choose from out there, but this book is all about how to buy with your head, not your heart. If you’re a 928 novice this handy sized buyer’s guide is essential reading, especially if you bear in mind that you won’t be able to fix much on a bad car with the £9.99 you saved by ignoring this book.

Review from the The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club, 2005

If you live in the UK and are shopping for a 928 then this is the buyer's guide for you.

I enjoyed the honesty of the writer and the overall presentation.

If you are a collector of Porsche books, a 928 owner or a potential 928 purchaser then this book should be in the Christmas stocking.
