Description
The 993 version of the evergreen 911 is sometimes described as the “King of Porsche”. This book chronicles the development, racing history and all ownership issues of the 993 in tremendous detail. Containing a buyers/owners guide and well over one thousand photographs, this book features incredibly in-depth information about all aspects of the Porsche 993.
Synopsis
This book about the Porsche 993 is the third of a planned six covering a range of Porsche models. This book carries on the tradition established with the author’s first Porsche 911 book (Robert Bentley) which covered the 964 series. Contains absolutely everything a 993 owner needs to know. Every model and version is included. Engines, transmissions, suspension and how to improve the performance are covered as well as the fixes for common problems.
This book really is the essential companion for the 993 owner or would-be owner. No need to ask questions online anymore, the answers are all here.

Review from Porsche Club of America, December 2007
Adrian Streather writes 'The Essential Companion' series – one I have been using a lot this year is the Porsche 993.
This book is a soft bound, 637 page, fully photographed, with only a few drawings. 'The 993 Companion' starts out with factory assembly line photographs, and goes into the history of each model, even detailed technical things found on the extremely rare 993 3.8RS and 993 GT-2.
Even with all of my factory Service Information Manuals and Workshop Manuals, I've found information in Streather's book I can't find in the factory books!
A 996 version is in works now!

Review by Paul Guinness for Classic Car Mart, October 2006
An all-encompassing look at the 993-series models and what’s involved if you’re thinking of buying, maintaining, repairing or simply researching one.
This is the third book in a planned range of six covering various Porsche models in incredible detail. And although it’s quite a major investment at just under £50, it’s also invaluable if a 993-model Porsche is high on your shopping list of Exotica To Buy. In any case, if you can afford a secondhand 993, what’s another fifty quid, eh?
This is a highly specialised book by any standards. But if a Porsche 993-series is the car you’re about to buy, it’s also essential reading, providing brilliantly the kind of detail and information guaranteed to ensure you don’t buy a dud. Within its 640 pages (yes, this is a seriously big title) you’ll find the kind of information, advice and intricate detail you won’t find anywhere else. It’s as simple as that.

Review by Jeff Goldberg for Porsche Club of America
Recently I received two books each dedicated to a specific Porsche 911
model. Both Volumes are titled “Porsche The Essential Companion” and is specific to the 911SC and 993. It would not have been inconceivable for the author, Adrian Streather, to have titled these books “Everything you always wanted to know about the Porsche 911SC (or 993).
Each book describes the 911SC and 993 models in great detail and chronicles the changes made by Porsche each year of that models development. Mr. Streather covers the engine, transmission, and suspension with basic maintenance tips and performance modifications. This is done with text and plenty of photos – perfect for the shadetree mechanic. A few of the basic maintenance topics covered include: oil and filter changes, brake bleeding, air conditioning check and tire maintenance in addition to cleaning and storage tips.
Also included are details of the body describing changes and options available.
Someone considering the purchase of either of these models will find the “Buyers Guide” section invaluable. In this section the author describes how to check the authenticity of a car by explaining the VIN number and option code marking. He also points out potential problem areas to examine during a pre-purchase inspection. The 993 edition also includes OBDI and OBDII fault codes.
The 911SC version contains over 430 pages with 1180 photos and the 993 edition has 640 pages with 1300 photos. I understand that these are volume 2 and 3 of a planned series of 6. Volume #1 is dedicated to the 964. Personally I hope volume 4, 5 or 6 focuses on the Carrera of 1984 - 1988 vintage, as I’d really like to have all this information for my car.
